What We Achieved
Working with leading telco partners Vodafone and Ericsson, The GRID Factory helped deploy the UK’s first 5G Standalone network that runs a bespoke VR experience for education at Coventry University.
We helped deploy the network, and ensured that NVIDIA CloudXR could accelerate the XR experience into a VR headset, which is then streamed to the student’s phones. NVIDIA CloudXR is a combination of cloud-based and extended reality technologies that deliver rich, immersive experiences streamed from high performance GPU clusters. Coventry University are operating NVIDIA CloudXR on the UK’s first 5G Standalone network. This means that their student nurses and healthcare professionals can experience lessons and simulations that are facilitated by VR applications, but which are streamed to their personal devices, whether that be a phone or a tablet.
Success of the Project
This deployment demonstrated the potential for lecturers to deliver content remotely, to students in the UK and internationally, explaining concepts and demonstrating theory using VR as the main tool of delivery. The recent pandemic has matured the concept of remote learning on a large scale, and, using this technology, educators create a more involved and elevated educational experience for learners.
The GRID Factory’s expertise and experience in integrating Virtual Reality experiences is second to none. Their knowledge and advice has gone a long way to ensuring the success of our project. I would whole heartedly recommend them and their services to any organisation involved in Virtual or Augmented Reality projects.
