The future of sports broadcasting demonstrated at Saracens Rugby
The DCMS funded 5G Edge-XR project had a showcase event at Saracen’s StoneX Stadium, demonstrating some of the use cases that have been developed over the course of the project. The GRID Factory has been an integral part of the process, along with our partners at BT, Condense Reality, Salsa Sound, Dance East and the University of Bristol.
Demos included holographic boxing, an interactive rugby display, a large scale MotoGP presentation, and a volumetric dance display, among other things. With displays by ex-world champion Karl Frampton, and Irish and British and Irish Lions rugby captain Brian O’Driscoll, invited guests were treated to a wide display of the potential of the technology that partners have been investigating.
The GRID Factory designed and built the hardware stack which powers the experiences, harnessing the power of NVIDIA GPUs, and NVIDIA CloudXR. The collaboration between the separate parties on the 5G Edge-XR project has been very fruitful, and offers a glimpse of the future of sports and arts broadcasting.
5G Edge-XR
The GRID Factory worked with BT, Dance East, Condense Reality, Salsa Sound and the University of Bristol to deliver the VR and AR experiences through 5G networks in the UK.
Learn moreThe GRID Factory has tested NVIDIA CloudXR in every conceivable configuration and provided great feedback during our early access program. They bring a level of expertise in the scaling of NVIDIA CloudXR in combination with NVIDIA’s RTX Virtual Workstation software that will enable extended workloads on NVIDIA data centre and edge GPUs.
